Latest News Hot Off the President’s
Desk…

Our first official function as the new Chamber Executive was held on a crisp Monday evening, 15 June 2009 at the Little Morgue Winery in Yandina.
Proprietors, Aaron and Ali were the perfect hosts for our function, their hospitality was outstanding and their venue is truly mysterious & unique.
Guests were treated to a glass of wine on
arrival, followed by a wine tasting of several of the fantastic wines (& port) blended on site. Our host Aaron proved to be a great storyteller, providing us with the history of the metamorphosis of the premises, from a
morgue to a winery. Now that was interesting! Not only was the wine good, the food at the Little Morgue Winery was sensational and the canapιs were continuous throughout the course of the evening. Thank you again to
Aaron & Ali for your hospitality.
The theme for this event was a 'meet & greet' of the new Chamber Executive and Committee members, with a renewed focus on networking and collaborative relationships.
To that end, each of the committee members spent a couple of minutes speaking about themselves and what they believe they can offer to the Chamber and to business in town. We also advised our guests of
new initiatives that the Chamber will be undertaking over the coming months as well as what being a member of the Nambour District Chamber of Commerce can offer to business owners.
Sunshine Coast Excellence in Business Awards 2009
We also heard from Myles McNamara, President of Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce regarding the Sunshine Coast Excellence in Business Awards and the
Sunshine Coast Business Expo. More information on both of these events can be found at: Sunshine Coast Excellence in Business Awards 2009 or by
calling the Maroochy Chamber office on 5443 5661.
This year's business categories are: Innovation, Building/Manufacturing, Retail, Professional Services, Business Services, Lifestyle Services, Hospitality, Tourism
and each have a large and small grouping.
Individual categories are: Outstanding Employee of the Year and Outstanding Business Person of the Year.
Entries close on 31 July and judging will take place mid August to mid September. Please, if you know of someone that you think deserves to be nominated, get online and nominate them! The whole process to nominate
someone takes only a minute or two.
Sunshine Coast Business Expo 2009
For expressions of interest for trade booths, becoming a sponsor or as an attendee at the Business Expo, email: businessexpo@maroochy.org or visit the website here for all the info >>
The Sunshine Coast Business Expo will provide a one-stop-shop for businesses in the region, showcasing the latest cutting edge products and services, valuable networking and educational opportunities and a wealth of
information to help support businesses to gain a competitive edge.
The night would not have been complete without some formal networking (ok networking games), but I think all of you who attended will agree that these
'games' made introducing yourself to people you have never seen before all the more relaxing and less intimidating (especially AFTER the wine tasting!)
I also did hear that there were some business referrals gained on the night… that's the outcome we all want to be part of.
Our Recent Executive Meeting
Our recent Executive meeting was held on State of Origin night 24 June (aah, the sacrifices we make for the greater good of Nambour businesses!) and
focused primarily on event planning up to December 2009. If you would like to sponsor, host or be involved in ‘Fabulous Famil’ events in the coming months, please contact our Event Manager Brendan for more information on
5476 0811.
As we mentioned at the Little Morgue Winery on the night, please check in regularly for updates on the website for what the Chamber is up to. The Chamber can only be as good as it's members.
Until next time…good business, to you!!
Regards

Gina Van Wezel President Nambour Chamber of Commerce 20 June 2009
